-J LOVES to read. Loves it. In the morning for a good solid hour, he just grabs book after book after book for me to read. He always "oohs" and "aahs", as if he has never seen any page I open, even if we just read the book for the up-teen-millionth time. Total ham.
-The kid takes after his mother. He has a major sweet tooth. Don't know what to really tell you here... I didn't mean to be one "those" parents, but he can hear a candy wrapper, and smell the scent of any form a cany/treat/chocolate/sugar a mile away. I mean, we don't let the human watch any TV, but when I'm eating a treat (which I do often), I can't help but to share. I guess we all have our "things". HA!

-He is really understanding what we say. It's like a light in his head just clicked. When I tell him it's bed time, and it's time to pick up his toys, he gets it. When I tell him to go sit in his seat for breakfast, he climbs right in. If I ask him if he wants to put on his shoes so we can go play outside, he runs and grabs his shoes from the pile. On the other hand, this does NOT mean, by any means, that he is obedient, simply that when he wants to comply with what I say, he can/will, because he understands what I'm saying. It's awesome to see his little brain working.
-He started folding his arms.... Ok, this one melts my heart. Really. Every time we say our family prayers, I try not to make it a big deal for him, forcing him to fold his arms or anything. I just figured he would pick up on what he was supposed to be doing. I WAS RIGHT. Finally. Usually he would just wander around the room while we pray, but one night he plopped down in Chris' lap, and just folded his arms. Ya, he looks like little handicapped doing it (think of the stretch where you hold one arm straight across your body, and hold it with your other one...), but when I peeked out during the prayer and saw him sitting with his arms folded, I lost it. So precious.
-If Chris or I are EVER in the kitchen making food, there is no way in heck that J wants to be left out. He needs to be right in the middle of making the food. It's not always the most convenient thing, because we don't exactly have alot of counter space, or chairs for him to stand watching, so we usually end up holding the human on one hip, and whipping up our master pieces one-handed.

-He loves to jump. Side walk curbs. Chairs. Couches. Beds. The ground... Anything. He grasped the actual movement of "jumping". He always would try to jump before, but he mastered the whole leaving-the-ground idea, and just loves to jump.
-Another physical feat he has mastered is walking backwards. Not sure where he got this idea, but he thinks he is hysterical when he does it. He gets this look on his face like he is doing something really clever, and everyone should take note. He is so goofy when he does. Total J style, to be dramatic in all things.
-J pooped in the tub. Ok, this is totally gross, I know, but it was his first time. He actually stood up, VERY FRANTIC and just started screaming. I wondered what the heck was wrong with him, and then I, obviously, figured it out pretty quickly once certain objects started floating around his ankles. The kid was horrified. Mortified. Needless to say, I was fairly satisfied with the result--- knowing J, I would have thought he would have taken the opportunity to make the biggest mess possible. On the contrary. The kid almost had a heart attack right there in the tub; a totally melt down.

-He can say any word that starts with a "B". Not sure how that came about, but when a word comes up that starts with "B", he totally says it. Other words are jibberish, or made to start with the letter B... Ball, blue, bird, bottle (ya, ya...bottle baby), butterfly (Chris was messing with him, saying random weird words that start with B and he repeated them exactly), bay-ball (baseball), buppy (puppy), boot-ball (football).
-On that note, J hates a dirty diaper. With his new found language skills, he feels the need to tell me, every time, instantly, when he poops. He gets a very concerned look on his face, and comes up to me matter-of-factly, with a scowl, and says, "Poo-poo. Poo-poo", frantically pointing at diaper with both hands. He does this at home...AND in public. A little awkward sometimes. Of course I have tried to take this opportunity to do some possible "potty training". Hmmmm... Remember how he was horrified of pooping in the tub?? Ya. TERRIFIED of the toilet. TERRIFIED. Which, I can't quite figure out, because he actually is quite obsessed with the toilet, always trying to escape to it. But heaven forbid you put his hinder on the throne... torture. Scared to death. I am in no hurry, just figured since he was going to always be telling me when he was pooping, maybe we could strike a deal. Not happening.
-He is growing more teeth. Poor things has a trend to grow four at a time, all at once. At 9 months he got the two on top, two on bottom. Now he is growing two more on bottom, and molars on top. Yikes. He is such a trooper, and the only way I noticed he was teething, was because he got his token-teething diaper rash, and runny nose. There hasn't really been a change in his behavior at all. What a kid.

-He rarely cries when he wakes up in the morning or his nap. I won't tell you how this came about, because I love my human, and wouldn't want child services knocking on my door ;) Let's just say I am a VERY happy Mamma, with a VERY HAPPY boy.
-He loves the new baby coming to our family. It's so... I can't think of the right word. Pure? Endearing? Angelic? You get it. Out of no where, he will stop what he is doing, almost like someone has called him away from his adventure, and comes running up to my belly, and will just cuddle it (if you know J, you know what "cuddle" I'm talking about). He will give my belly kisses, and just laugh, like he is sharing some secret conversation. Then, away he goes, off doing what was occupying him before. Oh, it just so divine for me to watch. It's like their little spirits connect for that off-moment, just long enough to have a good laugh with each other. This makes everything worth it. I know his best friend is growing inside of me, and that is the best gift I can give him.
Anyway, Grandma and Grandpa, your boy is getting so big!! It seems like he grew years in just this past short weeks. It's amazing. He is becoming such a big boy, and not my tiny little baby. He is so independent, and so stink' hilarious. He makes me laugh all day long with his J-ways.
I LOVE HIM TO DEATH. and beyond.
I LOVE HIM TO DEATH. and beyond.
So cute. I can't believe he can jump. That seems very advanced. I love when they finally start obeying you (usually). It's the greatest.
ReplyDeleteOn the potty thing. I have tried a time or 2 to set Eden on the potty. She's obsessed with the toilet as well. She's afraid to sit on it without her own toilet seat cover. You know what I am talking about? It's like a kid size seat that sits on top of the normal one. So, if you don't have one of those already give that a try.
That's so sweet that he hugs your belly. I am excited for Eden to start getting the idea that their is a baby in my belly.
These kids are the greatest! We are so lucky. Thanks for sharing all the J-ways. So cute! You are an awesome mom.
He makes me want to secretly stop taking my BC...bad idea until I graduate and get real health insurance. Sad Day.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could meet J. He seems like such a sweet kid.
ReplyDeletecute post! Love all those cute toddler ways!
ReplyDeleteYou guys make it so hard to wait... we're down to less than two years now. Seems like FOR-E-VER!! :)
ReplyDeleteJ and I have a lot in common. Only, I haven't pooped in the tub lately.
