We had so much fun in San Diego!! Let's start at the very beginning...
We had the worse flight of our lives on the way there. Knock on wood. We took a red eye, which is usually no big deal. In the past we have had great luck with these flights. Usually the plane is empty, and we all just take up a row. J sleeps like a log on every flight he has ever been on, so we just set up camp and sleep the night away, landing safely at our destination. This did not happen this trip.
For whatever reason, Chris and I simply could not sleep. And we were exhausted. It was very frustrating. The only good thing, was J had his own seat between us, and was knocked out the whole entire time. They didn't have any kind of snacks, or food on the plane, unless you wanted to sell your right arm. So, we basically were like zombies, fidgeting here and there, trying to get comfortable the whole time, never quite achieving it. It was not the greatest situation.
Then, we landed in Phoenix. After the six hour flight, we had a two hour layover, before our plane left to San Diego. We were heart broken once we got to the front of the line at Burger King, when they flipped over the breakfast sign, to lunch, declaring they were "out of breakfast food"... Not sure how that happens at 8:00 AM, but whatever. We tracked down some other form of sustenance from Starbucks, and snacked away.
The next flight was fun. J was actually awake for the first time ever, and was having a blast! It was so cute!! He was so excited to see all the airplanes on the run way, taking off and landing. He stared out the window the whole hour flight, pointing here and there. It was a quick, and fun flight. J had a great time entertaining himself.
We landed with a whopping 10 minutes to get from our gate, to Kasey's (Chris' brother). We landed at gate 34, and he was at 37. We meandered over, and surprised him when we walked off the plane. He was not expecting us, but we figured out all our flight info before we took off, and were excited to greet him. J was holding a sign that said: ALOHA ELDER. I'M J. NICE TO MEET YOU. After greeting him, and figuring out where to get our luggage, we noticed that J had eaten a good portion of the sign, the little sicko. His face was stained green from the paper for a little while after.
Our quick trip back was wonderful. The whole family had not been together in years and years. Also, a great added bonus, my best friend from home, Hanna and her husband Cody, drove out to San Diego to see us. They brought with them my baby brother Jacob (who is not a baby... but he is my baby brother) with them. I was SO GLAD THEY CAME!!
This is taking too long... So, a quick re-cap:
We ate alot of good food (I'm sure I gained at least 5 pounds... at least), stayed up late talking, laughing, hit up the beach, had a ginormous birthday party for J (no exaggeration, there were 100+ people at the house), saw Batman, took family pictures, went late night shopping, heard a great homecoming talk, got pulled over, got a ton of material from Volcom to make J and New Baby quilts, went to LegoLand, went swimming in the pool, had a BBQ, solidified my hate for "Doug the Dog", etc.
It was a very productive trip. J had ALOT of fun with his cousins. A lot. He loves his uncles, and had fun entertaining them, dancing his heart out to any music at any given moment, chasing the previously mentioned "Doug the Dog", eating tons of junk food, and staying up late. My boy is such a trooper. He slept in different places, and was very patient with us.
We left to catch our flight at 9:00AM. He passed out on that flight. Then, we had a four hour layover, where J had a great time playing with random kids at the airport. Our 6 hour flight back was booked full, leaving us, for the first time, with no extra seat for the boy. It was amazing that he still sacked out the whole flight, starting at 5:00 PM (2:00 PM Hawaii time), waking up for an hour to eat some grub, walk up and down the isle once, and fell right back to sleep for the rest of the flight. He woke up once we got to the airport, and waited for our luggage, but fell asleep on the way home. I was sure he would wake up at 4:00 AM, but he stayed sound asleep until his usual 8:00 AM time... Freak child? Yes. I'm so so so grateful for my freak child. What an angel.
Anyway, our trip was successful. Our family had our days pretty well planned out, so there was not too much extra time left for wasting. It was so great to maximize our family time, since we aren't planning any trips in the near future---that's right, we are actually staying put until Chris graduates... I am thrilled for the break. Also, of course, I had so much fun that our friends, and my little brother could come out.
To them: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THE TIME FOR US!! WE LOVE YOU!
OH, and PS Kasey is so stinkin' awesome. I love that kid. He is one of my favorite brothers of Chris. At least in the top three, for sure... :) He is constantly grateful, happy, kind, caring, and unselfish. It's refreshing to be around someone like that. I love you Kase!! So glad you are home!!
