Breaking Blog Etiquette

First off. I am sure this post is going to get me in trouble. But really, has that ever stopped me before? Onward-ho...

I was chatting with one of my best friends the other day. She wrote a post on her blog, that I thought was hilarious. It was simply about an opinion she had on something she saw. It was a very short post, stating that she didn't like it. Her blog became under fire! All of a suddent, it turned into this big thing. Someone turned around and told her how people are "too opinionated and judgemental"... PAH HA HA HA!!

I was very suprised at the reaction, because in reading it, I never saw any negative connotations. Maybe my heart is a cold place. Never did she once mention a name, or say what she thought about people that liked what she saw. All she did was simply say she didn't like something, and all of a sudden, she is being judgemental and oppinionated??

Let's go with the whole "oppinionated" thing for a moment. Are these not our personal blogs? Are blogs not a place where we are supposed to be real? And oppinionated for that matter?? If a person is not oppinionated, what is their voice worth? I don't find people who are opinionated offensive at all. Ignorant people, yes, but not oppinionated. I am thankful they are intellectual enough to put put together their thoughts.

Now, onto the whole idea of being judgemental... HA! I have always loved when someone is one to dub someone else judgemental. It obviously shows the intelligence of the person doing the labeling. Are they not judging the person, that they said was judgemental?? Hmmmm. It just doesn't work. It's like someone stating that they are humble. We all have "things" we think are right, and wrong. If someone says that something is wrong, it does not mean they are saying everyone that does it, is a bad person. Why do people tend to look more into things, that aren't meant to offend?

I guess there is some unstated blog etiquette, that I obviously skipped over learning, when joining this whole blog world. I don't write to the critics out there. I don't really write for the non-critics, either. I really write so that I can get a thought, idea, event, memory, etc. down on paper. I want my thoughts to exist somewhere, more then my brain. Isn't that fair? Bloggers should not have feel like they have to censer.

I have never had the gall to go on another persons blog, and slam them for something they wrote. Why? Because for the exact reason that it is their blog. I would never read your journal, and then take a magic marker, and write over the things you wrote, telling you my negative input. Friends and family members are the people who blogs are intended for. If you are a stranger, and happen to drop by, I would expect you would have the same respect as the people the blog is intended for. No? Is that too far fetched? Am I being unrealistic? It's their little spot on the world wide web, where they are allowed to reign free. If you are not being illegal, immoral, or dishonest, I feel you should be allowed to blog freely.

I guess the moral of story is: If you ain't got nothin' nice to say, don't say nothin' at all. Do we really have to all leave a disclaimer on our blog that says: IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU READ, FEEL FREE TO LEAVE?

I just thought it was common knowledge...

Can't we all just get along, like these happy people?

  2. For sure- people's blogs are their domain, you can disagree but you don't have to slam them for their opinions! Sheesh!

  4. Not saying that I am said friend, but the post was about a dislike of the tiny floating fetuses that people put on their blogs when they are pregnant. You know, the ones that look super creepy and count down to a very unsure date of birth. Not that there is anything wrong with pregnancy...it is beautiful...anyway, the post was deleted to cause no further harm. Sorry.

  5. Well said. I'm glad that you let me know where you were... I've been DYING!!!! Just kidding. I've been debating whether or not to put a controversial statement up on by blog, I know the fires will probably come. So watch out for it!
